Welcome to Ancient Greece

You and your partner are Jennings Senior High foreign exchange students.....

......who will be the first exchange students ever to be sent back in time to live with a family in ancient Greece for 10 days!  You will stay with a family in Athens AND Sparta for 4 days in each city-state.  You will be observing your life and your "family's" life while you are there.  Click here for a list of Greek names you can use for your family.
Your observations must be made each day concentrating on a particular topic. You must record your information while you are in the city-states viewing different aspects of their lives.  Follow Mr. Wallace's research template:

*Day 1:  Daily Life (social classes, (more on women), children, clothes, economy)
*Days 2: Politics (government, military)  Religion (Mythology) and Sports (Olympics)
*Day 3:  Philosophers; Today your meeting Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle
(Which one of these guys makes some sense to you?)
Art/Architecture (What do you see around town?)
*Day 4: The Peloponnesian War (What happened between these two city-states?)

You will need to do research using your textbooks and online. (Ch. 5 Green Book/Ch.4 Blue Book)

Weekend Summary: You will be able to individually answer these questions by writing a page paper after you get home.....

Would you rather be Athenian or a Spartan? Explain. (One page typed paper)

Which philosopher do you agree with or disagree with?  Why? (One page typed paper)

Create a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting Ancient Sparta and Athens. (Venn Diagram provided by Mr. Wallace)
To help you make your decisions and create the Venn diagram, you will need to use your daily journal.

Your scoring guide for this project will let you know how you will achieve that "A".

Hellenistic Greece:  You will learn why Alexander was so great that he was known as "Alexander the Great".  You will also view and analyze some of the great sculptures of Hellenistic Greece.
